Feb. 19, 2014
Medtronic, Inc. announced FDA 510k clearance CE Mark, and the global launch of its Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) System. The Reveal marks the worlds smallest implantable cardiac monitor (ICM) to assist cardiovascular specialists with long term monitoring of ECG for up to 3 years.
The ICM device is called the Reveal LINQ. The device is approximately ‘one-third the size of a AAA battery’ or similar to a golf tee. The Reveal ICM device is nearly 80% smaller than previous generations of the device. The Reveal LINQ integrates with a complete management system (Carelink(R) Network) allowing physicians to wirelessly monitor a patient’s heart in a continuous format for a period of up to 3 years. The Carelink Network, physicians can request notifications to notify when a cardiac event had occurred which additionally assist physicians with patient that experience symptoms such as dizziness, palpitation, syncope (fainting) and chest pain that may suggest a cardiac arrhythmia, and for patients at increased risk for cardiac arrhythmias.
The Reveal ICM device is inserted under the skin through a small incision of less than 1 cm in the upper left side of the chest, the Reveal LINQ ICM is often nearly invisible to the naked eye once inserted.
Medtronic is working closely with researchers and leading physicians around the world to advance innovative medical technology for the treatment of cardiovascular arrhythmias.
