Medtronic to Introduce Pill Sized Pacemaker
April 29, 2014
Medtronic to Present Case Study about First-Ever Pill-sized Pacemakers and Other Miniature Medical Devices at the largest medial technology conference on the East Coast. The conference is scheduled to take place from June 9-12 in New York City. They will be discussing their revolutionary process called ‘deep miniaturization’ which Medtronic has begun clinical trials for a pill-sized cardiac monitor, pacemaker, Implantable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) called the Reveal LINQ and the Micra transcatheter pacing system.. The process to miniaturize this cardiac device has been over a 4 year period
Medtronic representative emphasized that their goal is not introduce the smallest pacemaker, but rather ‘make life easier’ for cardiac patients. These implantable miniature devices significantly minimize the invasive aspect of the procedure when the size is drastically reduced. This results in smaller incisions, easier recovery and lowers the costs associated with such procedures.
